Protecting Our People: How to create a Data Privacy Policy

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

This workshop will describe the importance of applying strong data protection measures and safeguards not only to protect individuals’ personal data, but also your organization’s data.  Having a data protection policy helps entities avoid considerable problems, which may damage organizational reputations or the organizations’ confidential information.  Even more important is that the policy will help develop a trusting relationship between the individual and the entity collecting information.  In the workshop, each entity represented will write a draft data protection policy.

LEARNING OUTCOMES (competencies)

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Present a draft data privacy policy to the board of the entity they represent for discussion and approval
• Understand and communicate the importance and necessity of having a data privacy policy to protect the persons represented in the data the entity collects
