WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the importance of knowing what data is.  We will explore the foundational concepts and skills needed to be “data literate”.  Participants will learn about the categories of data analysis and various data formats and their applications across different scenarios.  Hopefully, by way of this brief course, persons will become more comfortable working with and interpreting data.  This level of understanding is necessary to be able to create data insights and improve decision-making in any organization.

LEARNING OUTCOMES (competencies)

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

·         Recognize major data concepts and tools and predict where they can be appropriately applied in their work

·         Appreciate the importance of curating, organizing, and wrangling data

·         Predict the consequences of data use and misuse and know when more data may be needed or when to change approaches

·         Be more comfortable with and understand how they can data for more data-driven decision making
